Grief & Loss
Grief is a natural emotional reaction to a loss. Everyone deals with grief differently. The following grief process may occur:
1) Acute Grief – Immediately after a loss acute grief ensues. Symptoms include insomnia, loss of appetite, intense sadness and distress and poor concentration.
2) Completed Grief – Acute grief may persist and a person is unable to heal and accept the loss.
3) Integrated Grief – Occurs when people have overcome acute and completed grief. Symptoms have subsided and they are able to resume a normal life with less intensive symptoms.
